Bike Droitwich

Bike Droitwich: Our Vision & Mission

Our Vision: A Droitwich Spa where cycling is a safe, joyful, and natural choice for everyday journeys. We envision a town where people of all ages and backgrounds can seamlessly cycle to the high street, local schools, the Lido, and the railway station—improving personal health, lowering traffic congestion, and fostering a connected community.

Our Core Objectives

To mirror the impactful work of Bike Worcester, Bike Droitwich focuses on four active pillars:

  • Advocating for Infrastructure: Championing a network of safe, segregated, and well-connected cycle routes. This includes making the town center more accessible, improving crossings over major barriers like the A38, and enhancing active travel paths along the Droitwich Barge Canal and toward Worcester.
  • Enabling the Community: Eliminating the barriers to getting on a bike. This means organizing local “Bike Buses” to help Droitwich school children commute safely, setting up bike libraries for low-cost or specialized access, and offering adult confidence training.
  • Tackling Road Harm (Vision Zero): Working alongside West Mercia Police and Worcestershire County Council to push for safer street designs, lower speed limits in residential areas, and promoting tools like Operation Snap to report close passes and dangerous driving.
  • Promoting Inclusivity & Fun: Building a vibrant culture around active travel through community led-rides (like Critical Mass style events), refurbished bike schemes, and celebrating local cycling stories.

By transforming the perception of cycling from an “inherently dangerous hobby” into a practical form of local transport, Bike Droitwich aims to make the historic spa town a healthier, quieter, and more sustainable place to live.

What specific area of Droitwich (e.g., school commutes, the town center, or canal path integration) do you think needs the most focus to get a group like this started?
