On Saturday 25 April, Droitwich Spa saw another positive show of support for cycling and active travel as our latest Critical Mass ride took to the streets.
With just over 20 participants of all ages and abilities, the ride created a visible, good‑natured presence on the roads, highlighting that people on bikes are a normal and welcome part of everyday life in Droitwich. The weather was kind to us, setting the tone for a relaxed and sociable evening ride.
A Gentle 3 Miles Around Town
The route took us on a roughly three‑mile loop around Droitwich Spa, crossing familiar streets and neighbourhoods at an unhurried pace. As always with Critical Mass, the emphasis was on inclusion rather than speed, making it accessible for confident commuters, leisure cyclists, and those newer to riding on the road.
Riders chatted as they rolled along, bells rang, and plenty of friendly smiles and waves were exchanged with passers‑by. The ride moved smoothly through the town, demonstrating just how well cycling fits into Droitwich’s streets when given space and consideration.
Making Active Travel Visible
Critical Mass isn’t a race or a protest in the traditional sense—it’s a celebration. Seeing more than 20 people cycling together through the town is a simple but powerful reminder that active travel is already happening in Droitwich, and that many residents want safer, more welcoming streets for walking, wheeling, and cycling.
Events like this help spark conversations about road space, safety, and choices in how we get around. They also show that cycling isn’t just about sport or fitness—it’s a practical, enjoyable way to travel locally.
Great Community Spirit
One of the best things about this month’s ride was the sense of community. New faces rode alongside familiar ones, and the atmosphere remained friendly and relaxed throughout. Whether people joined for the whole route or just part of it, every rider contributed to making the event feel positive and inclusive.
Join the Next One
If you spotted the ride and wondered what it was all about, or if you’ve been thinking about giving cycling a go in Droitwich, Critical Mass is a great place to start. There’s no special equipment required—just a bike and a willingness to ride considerately with others.
Thanks to everyone who came along on 25 April and helped make it such an enjoyable evening. We’re looking forward to seeing even more people at future rides as we continue to show that active travel belongs in Droitwich Spa.
